Backstories
Location: Starbase Concordia
Timeline: MD 0 1200
The civilian transport Wild Rosemary approached Starbase Concordia. From the portal near her seat, Jerti took in the armored might of the Federation Outpost.
The young Orion was dressed in her 'travelling clothes', black pants, a purple t-shirt with some ancient Earth musical group's name on it. Black leather knee-high boot, and an ancient leather jacket completed the ensemble.
The Captain's voice came over the internal comms. "Ladies, gentlemen, and neuters, we are about to dock with Starbase Concordia, please make sure your luggage and travel documents are at the ready. For those going further out, we have two standard hour layoff, before continuing on. We know you have a choice, so thank you for using Combined Spaceways."
Jerti felt the faint vibrations as the transport docked with the Starbase. She waited for the other passengers to disembark, before grabbing her carryall and making her way though the airlock.
Setting foot on the Starbase, she looked around, taking everything in as she follow the other passengers through customs.
The customs officer took one look at her and asked. "Did you pack this bag, yourself?" He asked before adding a begrudging "Ma'am."
"Yes." She replied. "I also have my ord..."
He cut her off. "Would you mind opening it?" Again the begrudging "Ma'am."
"Sure, its just my uniform and a few personal objects." She replied opening it.
"Where are you coming from?" Again the begrudging "Ma'am." He asked as he looked through her bag.
"Vulcan, I was visiting friends while between assignments." She replied.
Pulling a little clay figure from her bag, he asked. "What's this?"
"Its a Vulcan prayer figure." She replied.
"I'll have to scan it, make sure there's nothing illicit inside it." He said looking for any fear on her features.
"Of course." She replied showing no fear.
He scanned. Nothing. "Okay." He said sounding downhearted. "Your travel documents, Ma'am?" He asked.
She smiled and handed over her PADD.
He looked at them. "Oh, you're the Starbase's new Chief Science Officer." He said handing back the figure. "Sorry, for the delay, Lieutenant, you can't be too careful, you understand?"
"Of course, Officer." Jerti replied trying not to laugh at the change that had come over him after learning she was Starfleet.
After passing through customs, Jerti walked into a obscured alcove and let out a rich laugh.
She had become used to being judged on the color of her skin, and what people associated with being Orion. She'd learnt to laugh about it, as a way of keeping sane.
"Computer, can you direct me to my quarters on Deck 22, Room 12?" She asked.
"Of course, please follow the illuminated panels to your destination." The familiar feminine voice replied.
Rhys had a PADD in hand, Elia had asked him to step up until the XO arrived on Station, looking around he noticed an Orion arrive. "Jerti!" he screamed.
Hearing her name, Jerti turned to see a tall dark-eyed man in a Sciences Teal uniform.
Approaching him, she said "I'm Lieutenant Junior Grade Jerti Chamber, how can I be of assistance, Commander?"
"I am Doctor Rhys, standing in for the Executive Officer. I am to 'direct' the Chiefs. The Captain has Scheduled a meet and greet in 4 hours at 1600 hours." he smiled handing her a PADD with orders.
"Nice to meet you, Doctor." Jerti said accepting the PADD. "Understood, see you, in 4 hours." She said with a smile.
"Doc, this is Arrivals, another officer is checking in." a voice came over the commline.
"Excellent Lieutenant, your Quarters are on 22, Cabin 12, Don't use the Stations Directions they are a bit wonky, you may end up walking out an Airlock. Miley is still working on it with everyone." the Doctor smiled gainfully.
"Thanks, sir." Jerti said and headed for the nearest turbolift.
